Discuss Can I tile on this? in the British & UK Tiling Forum area at TilersForums.com.
In the past I have removed all the skim coat, primed the bonding within an inch of its life and then tiled, worked for me then but you have done the right thing.People who want a rush job regardless of the difficulties are ignorant and don't mind jeopordising your reputation,it's worth going with your instinct, and advice of us lads and lassies here :wink_smile:Ok, I have told her she needs to get the walls plastered. I was trying to clean off the top flakey layer and it just keeps falling of and getting worse, there won't be much left if I carry on. I am not risking the tiles falling off the walls when I have finished the job, I can do without the hassle!
Executive decision made!
Ok lets hear you guys tell me I'm wrong! lol
you've done the right thing in telling the customer to get it plastered, if i advise a customer that a wall needs to be plastered first and they will not go with it i will walk away, not worth the damaged reputation should anything go wrong. ie: tiles in the bath due to poor substrate.
