had to put a job back from last thursday to day due to a couple of jobs running over. sent the customer a message last tues letting him know as e was at work and only left me a mobile number. i ended the message with a sorry and i hope this is ok. turned up this morning as planned and all curtains shut and lights off. just about to knock on door when i spotted waste tiles and empty addy buckets. they must have got someone in within a day of me calling and didnt have the decency to let me know:rant: felt like letting his tyres down. anyhow at least i got to spend the day with the kids

You should have spoken to the customer directly, rather than just leaving a message as he might not of been able to wait until today if he was having something fitted and needed the tiles fitted, so i don't think you can moan about the customer on this occasion as it was you who changed the day.

Mind you, you win some, you lose some, I did a bit of tiling at short notice for a guy over the last couple of days, whilst working in Leeds. Apparently the other tiler had left a message on his phone to say that he wouldn't be able to make it and his wife wanted the job done PDQ, and was prepared to pay a premium for it!

Got paid well, and a hefty tip as well for being able to do it at the drop of a hat.

I must go and pick up them empty addy buckets and clear away those tiles for them, feel quite guilty about that.

As others have said maybe should of spoke to them directly rather than a message,but they still should of told you not to bother turning up even if it was via a message back to you.

I've never lost a job quite like that, I did recently have a customer go elsewhere because I couldn't do his job quickly, but he gave me fair warning that he might decide to, so I was cool about that.
