Discuss Dot and Dab tiles!! in the Canada Tile Advice area at TilersForums.com.

Nat,
You've done the right thing in questioning the installation methods.

I, and every other real tradesman need more customers like you to notice, question and challenge anything that isn't quite right.

Hopefully you can talk to the owner/manager, stop the works, pay for the suite (supply only), tiles should be able to be removed and saved (soak in hot water) - even if you have to buy a few more m2 - then thats the not the worst thing in the world.

But at least you've acted quick.

Time's Ran Out

Unless I have missed some point of the discussion so far I'am not sure why you should be out of pocket at all! They will have to replace all ruined tiles that have been paid for and make good the room to an acceptable standard. It may take time to get this sorted but his reputation has to be worth something.
Be firm but polite and express your concerns. Ask him what his intentions are and if you are not convinced a professional job is achievable take legal advice through the Citizens Advice Bureau to recover all your costs! Take plenty of photos, and keep a file - you will need it!
Good luck.

Morning John.
Nat was concerned that taking the complaint to the company and stop work might make them not hand over the goods she's paid for from them.
The suggestion/thoughts of writing off the tiles i mentioned more as a bargaining chip if they demanded any labour for what they've done. But your right, ideally they should refund there costs as well or supply more tiles.

Judging that the bathroom is not complete Nat and therefore not being used. My first guess is any leak will be on a feed pipe rather than a waste. Therefore a continual leak. Any idea where it maybe coming from Nat?

I think it may be coming from a central heating pipe, judging by location of stain, the ceiling is not dripping with water, a little damp to the touch and stained

More to claim against them for damaged ceiling if they have caused leak on central heating pipes!
Stop all work if your not assured it is being completed to British Standards and in a professional manner and demand a full refund.

Thanks John I will be firm and stand my ground. Hopefully have an update tomorrow.

Hi all, just an update, the owner/bathroom fitter has come this morning, explained all the issues, he was very apologetic and seemed very concerned about it all. I asked why the dot and dab and he said as the walls are plasterboard (dot&dab) you can't run a full bed of adhesive, raised all my other concerns and he has offered to rip all out and start again and do it all himself, don't know what to do he is coming back with all my other fittings this morning, any advice?

Never heard so much nonsense in all my life. Is the owner the guy who did the work originally Nat?

No he had tiler do it mostly, I have to let him know if we want him to continue with the work when returns (hopefully), he has offered to re-order more tiles, my Dad asked why he didn't remove all the plasterboard and take it back to original underneath to do a proper job and he said there is only so much he can do? I feel that I shouldn't let him return to finish work, but I am stuck without a bathroom and have to find someone to do the work........
