Have I made a mistake

Aqua i know exactly what yer going through mate.

Its crap out there at the momenet, and dont get me started on some tiling courses!

I have recently moved out of my 2 bed flat to a 3 bed house to try and get a better style of life for my family.

Due to the lack of work atm i have had to find a part time job coz i can't risk not affording the mortgage i have only just got.

I managed to get a foot in the door with a well known tile store. Although not the way i wanted things to pan out its a case of doing whats needed to pay the bills.

I work 3 days at the store and tile the other 4 if i can. If not i try to get extra hours with the store.

Every day since i have worked in store i have seen at least 1 new tiler coming in asking to set up a trade acount and saying that they have just finished a tiling course.

like the one about 40,000 tilers missing, very good. aqua, re: pressure, its part of it unfortunately, only you can decide if you want that in your life, weight it up against the promised financial benefits. pm me with how far you are willing to travel for site work by the way.

i would to stress over the work, just at the min stressing over no work

im thinking now that i have only sampled the bad in tiling, not the good, so i have to stick it out until then to get a insight of whats it like.

on my course i loved tiling, its all i could talk about, i had a few days out with another tiler who worked for the owner of the tiling course and agian i loved it.

I will stick with it and wait for the good, and when the good comes, ill tile harder and make the good times great times (hopefully)

Does any one do site work on here, if so whats it like, as ive been told its **** money when you finally get it

Not nice to feel disheartened, is it, not easy to solve it either. Hmmm...

Do you have the Thompson Local directory in your area? Or the Little Red book? Both are free business directories, don't know if the boxes are free but the small ads are. There are also small local trade directories that come with the local paper, my first stop when I look for any trade, because you rightly or wrongly just get this reassuring sense that these are local people and everyone will know them.

Forget about inkjet leaflets, the print is not waterproof, and all it takes is some drops of a mug of tea on them and they look smudged, cheap and nasty, not the kind of image you want to portrait. Yellow pages cost a bomb, really, don't think they work so well, never did for me, but that was in different types of works.

You don't have a van yet, but if you have a car, put a sign and your number in your car window, anything to make you visible.

And maybe you daughter could merrily chat away to her friends' parents what a great tiler you are? Only half joking about this, mothers do listen to their childrens' conversations, and it puts you in a trusted position immediately, seeing your daughter is a guest in whoever's house. Wear the t-shirts mentioned at EVERY birthday party!! That's all I can think of for now.
But good luck...
