Happy new year all.
I asked a question a while ago it was should I make the jump? dh said it best and I quote "that decision is yours alone Jimbob". Wise words.
Back in November I took redundancy and decided to pursue a career as a s/e tiler and tiler it all sounds good so far. During my last week at work a rival company offered me a position, 30k basic, company car. My question is can I match this tiling. I market for a living and am more than confident the image I can promote will far surpass the local competition so that is not a problem neither is my ability I am just unsure as to possible earnings levels and how they compete with my wage slave option. I can also install bathrooms and kitchens so this could be part of the service. I have enough funds to pay the house hold bills for 4 months then it is sh$t street. HEEEEEEEEELP. Can I earn enough money assuming that the business is marketed well and my work is of a high standard, is there margin to be had? Oh and I have two days to decide.:mad2:

hi jimbob....

It will take time to get established as a good tradesman..this doesn't happen over night by a long way.....you have the right attitude to succeed but it also depends on the competion you will be up against....my advise is to think carefully before giving up a well paid job....Yes!! tiling is a well paid trade but wot i,m saying is it is not easy at first......good luck and let us know wot you decide....

Cheers again mate, my previous job paid 22k and I was heavily taxed as my ex boss got bored of his A4 and forced it onto me so I cleared approx 16500k a year in the bank after all deductions, is it feasable with my four months of breathing room that I could generate that level of income or at least something near in that time.

I think I am asking you too much, I can't expect you to say yeah do it Jim it will be great. The scary thing is , is that I made my mind up ages ago I just wanted reassurance but hey if I or you could see into the future I wouldn't be sat here typing this. Fingers crossed and as my best mate said if it don't work Jim get a fu+$%ng job kid...
I will let you all know how it goes, kick off at the end of January. Damn I'm scared/excited.

nothing ventured nothing gained. You sound as if you really want to try the tiling and you have capital to pay your bills for a few months so my advice would be go for it,i did and it has worked out well for me.Iwas in ajob 22k per annum and i had had enough and wanted out and just took the decision to try it on my own, there is also nobody to answer to as you are your own boss.So like i say i think you have already decided in your own mind what you are going to do.ALL THE BEST.
