Has the washing machine got a 30mm thick lid on it - ie a top if its used as a freestander.
If so this just slides off after removing 2 small screws.
You can buy an alliminium cover sheet to stop dust/dirt getting in to the workings.

For newbies.....

Floating floor is actually a method of installing a floor rather than a specific type of flooring material. In this method, the individual planks or boards attach to each other--either by means of gluing or snapping together--but do not attach to the sub-floor on which it is being installed. This is in contrast to a hardwood floor, which need to be nailed down to the sub-floor/Joists.

A jigsaw puzzle is one great comparison. With a jigsaw puzzle, pieces connect to each other, but not to the table. A floating floor is like a jigsaw puzzle. Laminate is typically a floating floor.

I had this problem once with a washing machine at the end of the unit, after discussing all options including raising the worktops which would have been a bigger job than the floor itself. We came up with a solution by making the work top over the washing machine removable and i routed out half of the worktop on the underside. It wasnt the prettiest way but they were delighted.

I have decided take this great advice did you just place it on top off the washing machine or did you put hinges on it?

cheers

No hinges. The area of worktop was at the end run of worktop so sat on the batten along the side and back. The client opted to use one of those trims to join worktops where the 2 met. I would have prefered just a join.
