hellooooooooooo

Hello there this is my first post and as I am a wife and mum please explain your advice as basically as you can. Went to Topps Tiles and got an approved fitter to fit our travertine tiles. Unhappy with him and asked him to leave. He had sealed the tiles but not laid any. Rang Topps senior manager who agreed to supply another fitter or full refund but we would have to return the tiles to him. I explained that my hubby and his mate are now doing it and the manager then said that as the tiles were sealed he could not sell them on and they would have to go in the bin when he got them back from us so if i liked them and wanted to keep them then make him an offer and whatever it is he will accept. The whole order cost £580, £380 was the tiles the rest the materials. Would you be suspicious ie could I trust that the tiles are not faulty and defective and he is just trying to offload them? or what would you do?

I am unsure as to what you are asking? Why would the tiles be faulty?

Why were you unhappy with the fitter if he hasn't laid any tiles yet?

We did not want the fitter back as when his mate arrived to put the boxing in up they started to tell me that everything wasnt level ie the bath, shower tray etc and in order to put everything right it would cost me another £300. They were slamming the bath down onto a piece of wood on the floor and then later that day we found out that they had broken the waste pipe under the bath and it was leaking! I am so suspicious now and just want to make sure what to do

Aaah, Ok. I don't see why the tiles would be "faulty". Travertine is a natural product, so it can't really be "faulty". They have grades of travertine. Depending on the price you paid. It may be a lesser grade (More Filler, Extreme Changes In Colour etc).

If I wanted to keep the tiles what would you suggest I should offer the chap at the shop? He said that he would only have to bin them anyway

Is he offering to refund the difference? I.E you paid £380 for them and if you offer £100 he will refund you £280?

That is what I am trying to work out. I told him that after what happened I was so upset that we just wanted a full refund of £580 which he agreed to do but he did say that even tho he would be just binning the tiles we would have to return them to him. I just thought it was too good to be true that he would let me have them now for say £50 and I assumed that there was something strange like the tiles are faulty or something.

I'm pretty sure that there is nothing wrong with them.

If you like the tiles and are happy with them. Make him an offer. As for how much, I can't really say. They are worth the amount you paid for them.

I work for a retailer, so my input would be biased as regards to how much you should offer.
