I was almost finished tiling my bathroom floor this evening, was in a bit of a hurry to get it done before the FastFlex turned into a big ball of rubber...

The toilet was sitting in the middle of the floor (on tiles that had been laid the other evening). Don't ask me why it wasn't resting against the wall or somewhere else. Totally stupid to leave it there, even briefly.

I moved back, knocked the loo over and heard the massive bang. :mad2: The bowl is smashed where it goes into the cistern. The tiles (porcelain) appear to be fine.

The trouble is, the toilet isn't white. It's a soft cream colour - and it took us ages finding tiles that match it! There' s a bath (now nicely boxed in!) and pedestal WHB which match. The suite is made by Roca, circa 2001.

Does anyone know of anywhere I'm likely to be able to find really old stock loos, or have a chance of getting something even approaching a colour match? I'm going to take the cistern lid to my local Roca stockist tomorrow to see if they can come up with anything. The Roca website lists a colour called "Cairo" which looks a bit like ours, but it's optimistic to expect them to be using the same non-white colours 8 years on.

Any suggestions gratefully received! I really don't want to have to replace the whole suite, especially as the bath is now totally enclosed with wall tiles above and a frame beneath (although the frame isn't tiled yet).

For an update: I've contacted the manufacturer, Roca. Unbelievably, the suite is still being manufactured, although they are phasing out the coloured ones. Mine is either Pergamon or Soft Cream - Pergamon is in stock, Soft Cream is on a 4 week lead time.

For the benefit of anyone searching this thread in future, if you remove your cistern lid on a Roca toilet, there will be a 5-digit code beginning 88 stamped into the underside. This will enable Roca to identify your cistern type (but not colour).

I'm going to my local supplier later today to try to establish the colour and place an order for a new pan - £67.57 +VAT is much better than I feared!

And the moral of the story is....

Dont leave new sanitary-ware sitting about unprotected from harm prior to fitting!

Opps...

A front room is not ideal for storing ceramic goods!
Accidents can happen?

Get em fitted quickly...

And until then store carefully!

(Well done getting a replacement although its cost you money and time.. But then in ANY installation you get set-backs and breakages)

Glad it was all sorted out.

PS: If you need a 10mm drill to bolt down the loo pan then we do the right size...

Just out of interest.
If something similar happens to anybody and it's a discontinued range.
Contact discontinued bathrooms.co.uk they buy up all the surplus discontinued ranges around the country.
Was recently on a bathroom where the plumber cracked an old Armitage Shanks pedestal.
We tried everywhere to no avail but Discontinued Bathrooms had what seemed to be the only one.
They had the plumber/customer by the b**** and charged £200 plus £37 delivery.
There customer service was appalling as well
