Hey Rob, mine was a present from my Dad. Came from a company called the invisible edge.
You can pick up a cheap cut throat for around £20 but they really arnt worth it. My dad has got well in to it and has a collection of them now and knows all the different makes.
The problem with the 1s made today is that the steel just isnt as good as it was about a hundred years ago, so if you go for a new one then you are going to have to spend a lot to get a really good edge that will last.
However be very careful of the scales (handle), I have seen a razor with scales made from wooly mammoth tusk!! Needless to say it was worth a fortune but that doesnt mean that the steel was any good. Your better off with a plain plasic handle and a great blade then a fancy handle and a naff blade. Also if you buy one you MUST make sure that it is honed for use, otherwise you will do nothing but cut yourself.
I have only been using mine since just before Xmas but before that I used an old fashioned 'safety razor' for about 2 years to get used to using a bare blade and working out how your hair grows. The biggest thing to get over is the thought of it, I have been using it for a little over a month and have no problems with it, in fact I used to cut myself more with the safety razor! Have a look at the links below, one is the company that sold me my razor and the other is a forum dedicated to traditional shaving.
