tilers mistakes

so...
i was in a rush last friday to get home and then go down the pub, tools and materials in the van as quickly as possible, off home like a bat out of hell, so come sat when i go to work go to open my van and :mad2:

a whole tub of green star awaits me!!!!

o well stuff happens...i'll save it for when i have to level out a rough window cill or something simliar.

The other mistake which i make at least 3times a week is kicking over my tub of spacers...damn that narks me off!!!

What other mistakes do you all commonly make?

Please tell me your are kidding about using ready mixed to level things out? That is the best place I have ever seen DIY adhesive, on the floor and ready for the bin where it belongs.

If it had been bagged I would be laughing.

o i have done a bag of grout all over the back of my van a few times, small kitchens when customers supply the adhesive, i'm happy its bal rather than b n q rubbish.
I sometimes use a ready mix to level out a small rough pacth on a window cill.

The other thing that grinds my gears is dropping the trowel handle in the adhesive!

not as harsh as above but i would bin it as it's not suitable for levelling anything out unless you have a week to grout it!

did leave a level on top of the van once while i was talking to someone in the street one day and it was still there when i got home

Iv'e had a bag of addy all over a drive when the bottom of the bag fell out, today I was cutting the curve round the shower tray and offered the tile to the tray and thought not happy with the cut, did another one which was perfect and when I come to lay it, I found I had cut it and used it thinking it was the scrap one. Doh

oh the pot of spacers is a regular one - it is usually full and 2mm pegs get everywhere! Have also cut the good second attempt, thinking it was the first poor attempt one.
Another one recently was making a difficult cut (all angles / curves etc) then fitting it perfectly only to reaslise the pattern wasthe wrong way

My spacers or wedges tub gets kicked over at least 3 times a week! Lol.another mistake is staying down on my knees for too long! I have a helper so he mixes and all so i keep going.not good for our knees lads and ladies.

:lol::lol::lol:...I've stepped in many a bucket of water before, getting off my hop up..carried a spilt bag of addy up 3 flights of stairs to find the 'front' end over my shoulder was all that was left!..missed borders out..fixed the wrong choice in the wrong plot on newbuild before..thinking about it..I'm a bloody disaster!:lol::lol::lol:

What you can do is use broken tiles to pack out with adhesive. So sort of double or triple tiling using some old thin 6x6 whites etc.

But I'm sure you knew that. Suck eggs and all tha'.

I was gonna post that and then censored myself at the last moment for that very reason:lol:

I throw the plaster board edge beads in the van and normally no problem but i have now thrown them in three times hit my racking so they stop my hand doesnt hey presto blood pouring

also i am a bit of a short arse or as sir ramic might call me a midget ( but most people are to him ) so im not used to ducking through doorways etc

i hit and have knocked myself out twice now over a six years period on the hook that holds my backdoor on my transit i really hurts but my head does not remember it so i keep doing it about twice a week on a good week more on a bad week

A always balance the bucket trowel on the side of the gorilla tub, then knock the tub and drop it in.

I also scrape the trowel around the rim of the bucket and end to remove excess addy before balancing that on the side of the tub too. So then the back of the trowel rests on the excess addy round the rim and gets messy....... before i knock it in the tub :mad2::mad2:
