Yeh substrates are a main factor in a successfull tiling job... But as I said surely there is a way to fix them down instead of just walking away from a job because the floor is not attatched?

mr tiler, the key word in this thread is float. if it floats, should it be tiled?

I know but the question im asking is... Cant you attatch the floating chipboard floor to the sub floor underneath in any way weather it be some sort of glue... Screw fixed... Any other way?

The only real way Mr Tiler is to lift the whole floor, joists, floorboards & screed the area instead.

You imagine laying thick king span on the bare ground, then laying joists onto that....then boarding it.

Do you think that surface would be stable?

Rite so just simply fixing the floating chipboard with screws is still gonna leave movement? Would that be enough movement to create promlems with the tiles even after laying a nice thick bed?

The joists are not fixed..........regardless weather the chipboard is screwed. The chipboard is generally glued in the tongue/groove.....but not to the joists.
