I drove to leyland to pick up 5000 leaflets today, got back about 5ish, had my tea then of i went leaflet dropping!!! I've just got back now and my legs are killing me.. Ive managed to deliver 600-700 leaflets (only another 4300 to go:mad2: ) and 250 business cards, If i do that everyday for a week thats all 5000 delivered.

By theory if the comeback is 1-2% i should recieve 50-100 calls (doubt it)..Fingers crossed hey!!
Does anybody else do leaflet dropping and as it worked well for you?

If you are just leafletting anybody and everybody - door to door - you will only get a low percentage success rate, and run out of stationary pretty quickly.

However if you leaflet people who have a higher likelihood of needing tiling work then you get a better success rate.. so your budget goes much further...

Where do I find them?
Firstly DIY centres is a good one.. business cards on cars seems to work and is quicker than walking door to door.. all you have to do is sit there for 40 minutes and theres another 100 or so new cars. In no time you can do about 500 card drops.. and people in DIY car parks are about 10 times more likely to need a tiler..

Also, its worth going door to door to houses that people have only bought in the last 6 months! then your percentage success rate goes up several fold.. than just hitting houses randomly.. You can find such houses on thisishouseprices.co.uk.

If you type into it every town/city within 15 miles of you (one by one) for the previous 6 months (the latest ones are from 2 months prior but its still useful) , then cut and paste that into a spreadsheet and there you are.. a list of peoples homes full of people more likely to need a tiler, so you can prioritise them.

Then all you need to do is put all that info into route plotting software and calculate the most efficient route between all of them and away you go....

This is updated once a month - so every month you should have another few hundred more homes to mail personally.

Best to use a business card wedged in the door with this method, because if you mail it it well get binned with junk mail.

as much as i think door drops are a great way to get cards, it is purely a numbers game there more you get out the more calls (I come from a background of over 10 years in the direct mail gameand what works one month may not work the next so it is trial and error).

you have to way up cost against speed, doing it yourself is free (except printing of the cards) but is slow. paying a company costs money but they will get more out quicker catch22 I suppose.

Are you putting any offer on the cards i.e. 10% off ?

I am just starting to do a door drop my selk of around 5,000 that I will do and 5,000 cards I am paying to have delivered I will post thread once I start getting results.

Good luck with yours.

Every leaflet drop I have done has always ended up with jobs, though not always within the first few days as I still get the odd call saying "I got a leaflet through the door a while back and could you please give me a price" blah blah, and I look at the address and it's somewhere I did door to door 8 months ago, so some people do keep them.

I would say from personal experiance, I get around 0.5 - 1% calls from a session of posting the little blighters and then it's all down to how you sell yourself as to the outcome.
But it's a very low cost form of advertising if you have the time to post them yourself.
5000 leaflets £49, even if you only got a kitchen splashback out of it, you have made money, but odds on you'll get quite a bit of work through doing them as It prompts people into thinking about their bathroom\kitchen when they see a leaflet for a tiler.

Hi
I’ve just got a email from my leaflet drop last night...

"Hi Mark,Received your leaflet tonight ( Pennine Road )................I need a price on tiling my bathroom floor (only a small area aprox 2mtrs x 1.5mtrs) will you give me a ring please 852206 anytime after 10.30am tomorrow"

This is my first ever customer (hopefully) and I’m a little nervous to say the least.:whatchutalkingabout Have you got any tips on what to say when I ring him and tips on going around giving the estimate?? Any advice would be much appreciated.

I got 5000 leaflets for £49 and I’m delivering them myself as I have lots of time at the minute..I’ve attached a pic of my leaflet. See what you think?

Thanks guys

I think a response rate of 0.5%-1% is good.
so 5,000 gives 25-50 calls and say you get 1in3 jobsthat you quote on that is 8-16 jobs so all you need to do is work the maths to see how many you need to deliver a month to get enough work.remember it may take a couple of months from dropping the leaflet to actually be on site, so you need to factor this in as well.

These figures are only estimates ideally when you get a few responses you can put in your actual figures. and from that you can work out how many cards you need to deliver per job and then the cost to get each job......and from that is it cost effective???

sorry if this is all a bit long winded but it is how you would asses a professional marketing campaign.

:mad2:
