i often use spacers on mosaics aswell, its not normally the weight of the tile that creates a problem, its the paper, mesh they are attatched to, some backings are rigid and some are just flimsy!!

paper will get a little flimsy when wet

the mapea grip is a tub adhesive but its the best grip adhesive ive used, its strength is far superior to any other tub adhesive ive used, upper reveals on windows etc are no problem with it.
sorry never used it or tried it only used cement based last 25 years and mostly fix large tiles or porcelain so couldn't use a dispersion adhesive

Sean i am guilty of not reading all the posts after reading them and your post i see i may have upset more than yourself i posted the comment expecting reasons why hoping learn something from the other guys just because i don't understand something doesn't mean its wrong also i feel sometimes people find some adhesive good for one thing and use it for everything there after just to say I use pins, make adhesive thicker, and use spacers on occasions if i did upset you or anyone else I must apologise
Regards Pete

if im fitting small mosaics i tend to use bal white star, or sovereign gold star. both white adhesive with high grab properties but sometimes find it takes far to long to go off, when the addy dries it like crystalises. the fact that it takes a long time to set can also be an advantage as you can manouvre the tiles about if they have moved. like you say pete we all have our own ways of doing things that suit our individual preference. not wrong and not right, as long as the end product is perfect and upto scratch then all is well.

calvados i do this sometimes mate if you know what mosic you are to use, but as doug says!!!

Sean i would always use something like nanolite it will hold a brick up without spacers and being cement based it drys but also doesn't skin as quick as acrylic

I think you can get away with tubbed stuff if its just a border but, it would deffo not be suitable for more than that e.g. full splash back or any area larger than a border feature.

Mapei advise that the mapigrip D1 is suitable for ceramics and mosaics but it doesn't say whether stone/quartz mosaics are included.

hi paul, suggest you have a thin bed for mosaics and with white adhesive. Try to use your float to flush them with the tiles. To hold them use nails. any problems give us a quick email. Good luck, isa
