Found out today that a friend of mine is in danger of losing his licence for driving the company van (Citroen Relay) at 57mph on a normal single carriageway road!

Apparantly, the speed limit for vans is not the same as for cars. This is something I didn't know.

For all you drivers of Non-car derived vans, please be aware and take adequate precautions against getting nicked!

This is really silly.

It's a hangover from when the non car derived vans were completely different to drive from cars and car derived vans.

Now, there is absolutely no need for this legislation. To think someone could lose their livelihood over this outdated legislation absolutely disgusts me:mad2::mad2:

The other issue that we should all be aware of is van derived cars suffer the same limits as vans. That includes anyone in a Merc V class, VW transporter camper van, or similar, the Transit variant (not the Galaxy) plus a load of others that I can't think of right now. It also includes those small Citroen vans that are also sold as a cheap estate car!

In fact if it started out on the production line as a van, you're stuffed if your clocked doing 60 on the wrong road!

The larger vans like ...Transits: relays : sprinters : all come under this speed law....but the smaller vans that do not exceed 2 tonnes laden weight don't...

So vans like astras : fiestas : escorts : scudos etc will be fine...

Dave, unfortunatly it's not that simple

Car, max 60mph - Mondeo, Astra etc Land Rover Discovery (unladen weight 2 tonnes)

Van, max 50mph - Transit, Trafic, Sprinter, Vito etc

Car derived van max 60mph - Astra van, Escort Van, Corsa Van etc Land Rover Discovery Commercial (2 tonnes unladen weight)

Van derived car max 50mph - Citroen Berlingo - YES Berlingo 5 seater car (derived from the small citroen van) , same weight as a Vauxhall Astra and about twice as slow. Anything that could be derived from the Ford Transit Connect. etc

...so do you see the stupidity of it:lol::lol::lol:

There was someone on the Honest John forums a while ago driving his Citroen Berlingo (car) who got done for driving above 50 on a national speed limit road.
