If I can do it Liz then you can, I just followed Robs instructions for safemode and then downloaded spybot as Dave suggested, my original problem was that I was trying to open things that I had downloaded in normal mode but the virus would not let me. I did it all again in safe mode and it virtually does it for you.
If you need a number for a flying computer genius from Audley let me know, Alan is top notch, not expensive and 100% honest.
AVG Pro version keeps me safe - 2 years costs about £45
Its the best I have ever used, Beats Norton as norton is too agressive.

Like I have said before - you usually only get what you pay for in this life - that includes Tilers and wetroom fitters !
Check it out on the offical AVG website www.avguk.com or shop.avg.com
PS - The computer scanner can be set up to run daily / hourly or whenever you decide. My advise is if you are working on your comp. then pause the scanner as its ram hungry and unless you have massive ram capacity. Then when not actually doing anything on your comp. resume scanner.
all installed and running fine...got rid of macafee. was going to install the avg but if microsoft essentials and spybot is adequate then that'll do for me.
big thanks to all that gave their help on this!!!

I use Avast anti-virus. Its a free download, runs unobtrusively in the background and doesnt take up much system resources. There is an Avast forum too so you can ask any questions before, during or after installation. You just need to install it in the right order and it works a treat.
