what anti virus do you recommend?

I'm now running scared about this too. Hubby installed our anti virus and firewall software through Norton but I don't know whether it's doing it's job because every couple of days it finds a tracing cookie that I have to destroy :yikes: I download updates daily from Norton to make sure it's got the most up to date stuff on it, but who's to say Norton themselves are not sending viruses to my machine. I wouldn't know.

Maybe we should start a forum thread about pc security, general pc maintenance, techy questions and so on, so that we can all learn from each other?

my (idiot) husband renewed our subscription with Norton so we're tied in until May i think. I'm going to get the desktop pc up and running again and make sure that's got AVG on it.

Good word Mike, I will remember that one..........

I managed to start in safe mode and download spybot, that found over 200 high risk bugs and tons of others, the worst ones take over everything and insist that you have to download their stuff to get rid of the virus, it costs a minimum of $30, spybot managed to get rid of them and I managed to get everything back to normal (I think).
The pc keeps freezing now and then and I have had to press the reset button 3 times because nothing was happening. I now have AVG, Microsoft security essentials and spybot, I also have an aerosol of bug spray in case they come back. What a nightmare.
Thanks to all that helped with advice.

Idiot husband I'm told the same ,we must be related

quite possibly if you're Scottish. He descends from a line of Tennants  And I mean people, not the alcohol.. although, I couldn't be sure he doesn't descend from the brewery

I'm using kaspersky atm it's very good.If you want a free anti-virus you could try Avast i've used it in the past and it's also very good better than avg in my opinion.

thanks for all the replies, the more the merrier

if you were me, would you remove the macafee, so it doesnt interfear with the avg or any other new anti virus soft ware??/ the avg seems to be popular, might opt for that and any other extras that could benefit
any thoughts??
cheers ed.......
