a sad day

How bad was the bite? did he go for it or did he let go quickly? I know when you have children around you don't want to take any chances but dogs quickly adapt given the right leadership. I know it's harsh as they become one of the family, but too much love and affection can ruin a dog sometimes, quite often we think of them as human and project human emotions onto them when really they are a pack animal and only really understand hierarchs. It's not cual to treat them as such, in many ways they love and 'respect' you more for it.

sad story jamie, but i would agree with dave, think of your kids and if the dog bit one of them mate you wouldnt forgive yourself, all the best with this

Sorry to hear your bad news Jamie, Its uncanny we've just walked in. Your's was the first thread I read, we have just been to see Cesar Millan the dog whisperer live at the MEN. Manchester. Hope things work out for you. Regards Phil.

There must be something affecting the Dog - My Boxer was 11 when he didn't come back from the vets and we had 2 kids born from when he was 3 and he was brilliant with them. They can be very powerful dogs as you know and I was the only one who could walk/hold him - but he was my dog. If there was the slightest doubt in my mind about his behaviour I would have taken him away myself - never have anyone afraid of a family pet because it wouldn't be a pet then!
Hope it all gets sorted without too much distress.

unfortunately a proper coat ripping puncture wound type..no grey area.
completely out of the blue whilst walking him. we have been advised by a boxer expert that it may be a sign of brain tumor (which the breed is very prone to) as it was so unprovoked and random (my wife said he just flipped..then came 'back in the room' all of a sudden as it were) again either way it's the end of the road really.

sorry didn't see this before I posted, so sorry for you

That's sad news jamie, maybe the vet can suggest alternatives but either way it'll be a rough time for you and the family. Hope your wife is ok too.

I have had loads of boxers and not a bad bone in any of them. Its a shame to put him down, there must be an alternative.

Ide get him checked mate sounds like he aint well to do that out of the blue., all dogs will bite if provoked or pestered enough my terrier recently bit my grandson but if you saw what he was doing to him he deserved it but it was only one of them warning bites but enough to scare the grandson not to annoy him again. If your dog has the beggining of a brain tumor this will make him unpredictable and dangerous if he was mine i would have him checked out first before putting him down though i know that scans are expensive.
Good luck with it anyway whatever,
Lucius
