Hi Guys,

just thought I would let you know - it is official, I have had an inspection carried out by a Tile Association registered company and it is basically a bodge job - he agrees with a full hack off and start again.

see thread here http://www.tilersforums.com/tiling-forum/18723-what-bodge-up-bathroom-3.html

Should have the written report with relevant extracts from the British Standards.

I will send a copy of it to the tiler, demanding payment in full if not it will be off to the small claims court. Who knows, maybe his dad will come round again :incazzato:

Thanks again for all your advice

Cheers

Steve

do you mean the architraves mate

you are absolutly right the tiles would loosen and likely fall off

no tiler would do such a thing even if its what the client asked for

i had a similar doorframe without archys , i used a tile trim just shy of the frame and then caulked the joint on the frame side

looked nice and neat when done, the client said to me i wondered how you would finish that bit, he was really pleased

This is what I wanted. That was the first thing that I picked him up for.

He took the trim right up to the edge of the door frame - and even over it. If you look at my original thread you will see the mess he made of the door so he could get it to fit back. The trim on the left of the door is actually curved. It was covering the cut out for the hinges at first. Somehow he was just about able to uncover them on that side. The striking plate for the lock is covered by the trim as well so unless the handle was pressed down fully, the trim would get kn@ckered. His excuse - I thought you wanted the wet room look :mad2:

The guy appears to be just an amateur in the light of day. Saw somebody tiling and thought - I can do that - couple of weeks later had a van and out tiling - that is from somebody who knows of him and knew the tiler he watched!!! Doubt he has even had any training at all. I know I must of approached it wrong in the initial engagement to have ended up in this position, but I just wish he had of held his hands up after a bit - I would of had more respect for him. And even last weekend he had the opportunity and wouldn't.......

The bath is an Idealcast P bath - 1700 x lots of different dimensions.

As for Part time - the wife kept on saying to me what the hell is he doing towards the middle of the second week. Not every hour of every day but he was there for a couple of hours at least each day over that week. It was when he grouted on the Thursday without the job being complete (I think it was) the Alarm bells really rang!!!!

Further Update - What a Bodge in the Bathroom

Hi Guys,

well had the tiles ripped off yesterday. Managed to take a bit of video before I left for Munich that shows how bad the mosaics were stuck on and also "live footage" of me being able to poke things down the back of the tiles. The tiler who ripped off also found a lot of dot and dabbing along the wall where the door is - apparently one tile was stuck on with a single blob of cement :yikes:. Tiler had the use of my camera so I will see the photo's and post up the interesting ones for you to see at the weekend if I get chance (short weekend this weekend ).

I must say CTD Chester has come up trumps in a price to replace the tiles. A big thanks goes out to them from me and my family - although the original tiler will be the one who will be happy with the price (if you can be after being taken to small claims for the whole lot)

Cheers

Steve

Hi
I went down the small claims route a few years ago and it is not as easy as you would think to get your money.... very briefly things to consider are
After initial costs,
If guy does not reply to claim, then you will need to re apply to court, at a cost.
Then he may refute your claim, more costs to take it further
If you get a judgement and he does not pay, you will have to pay more money to take it further.
If you get that far he may be able to make an arrangement to pay a minimum amount each month, if he can prove that he cannot afford
If he defaults on his payments, you may have to re apply at a cost to take it further.

Not an easy route ! Can be costly, time consuming without guaranteed results
